Despite the scorching heat, Detroit faithful follow Christ down Woodward Avenue in annual Eucharistic procession on Sunday

Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger presided over the confirmation of adults on the Solemnity of Pentecost, June 8, at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. The feast day, which commemorates Jesus' gift of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, comes 50 days after the celebration of Easter in the Church's liturgical calendar. The solemnity is an occasion to celebrate the sacrament of confirmation, in which candidates are sealed with Chrism oil and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in their own lives.

On Sunday, May 18, Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger celebrated Mass at St. Moses the Black in Detroit, gathering with members of the local Catholic community. Following the liturgy, attendees were invited to a Detroit-themed reception featuring live music and regional food. The event brought together parishioners, clergy, and guests for an afternoon of worship and fellowship in the city.

Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger continued the Triduum celebration at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit on Good Friday, leading the Liturgy of the Lord's Passion. The liturgy commemorates the passion, death and burial of Our Lord, as the Church now waits in vigil for the celebration of the Resurrection.

On Holy Thursday, the Church commemorated Christ's institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood during the Last Supper. The faithful gathered April 17 at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament for the Mass of the Lord's Supper with Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger as celebrant.

Priests from across Archdiocese of Detroit gather at cathedral to receive sacred oils to use in baptisms, confirmations, anointings

Holy Week began in the Archdiocese of Detroit on Sunday, April 13, as Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger celebrated Palm Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Reflecting upon the Lord's Passion, and upon Peter's betrayal and subsequent reconciliation with Jesus, the archbishop urged local Catholics to similarly spend time praying and reflecting upon their own relationship with Jesus.

Members of the archdiocesan curia gathered for one final time March 12 to pray with the outgoing leader of the Archdiocese of Detroit, as Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron offered his thanks and bid farewell to those he's called his "coworkers" and "friends" over the past 16 years.

The movement of the Holy Spirit was heard loud and clear Saturday evening when Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Detroit was filled with song and music. Dr. Williams S. Harrison led the Feb. 22 performance of "Songs of Freedom: Celebrating the Sacred Music of African American Composers" at the east-side Detroit church.

Early Feb. 11, the faithful of the Archdiocese of Detroit received word from the Vatican that Pope Francis had accepted the resignation of Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron and appointed Bishop Edward J. Weisenburger of Tucson, Arizona, as the next archbishop of Detroit.
